Can I still be a RN? PLEASE HELP!

Here's my situation - When I was in my early 20's I was in the middle of getting a divorce and my ex-husband which is a complete jerk made a falsified domestic violence charge against me and had me arrested. The event never happened but he did it out of spite. When I went to court being young and naive I was told if I pleaded guilty or no contest I wouldn't have to have a trial and get legal counsel etc.! So I did just to keep from missing work and paying for an attorney. Little did I know this conviction 13 years later is coming back to haunt me!!! Does anyone know if I can still get a job as an RN or even if I can take the state boards because of this???? I did my homework on trying to get this expunged from my record but unfortunately DV is something that can't be removed! I'm still on the waitlist for my clinicals but I have my heart and time invested in this program and am praying there's still a way I can make this happen. HELP!!!

Moved to Nursing with a criminal history forum

Questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a MIP, DUI, or other related charges?
What happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
Can I go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
Will I be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?
What can happen if I receive a MIP/DUI/DWI or other charge while still in school?

These are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing.

Each case will be dealt with by the BON on an individual basis
