Can I be denied a license due to bad checks?

Nurses Criminal

Published

I was arrested in 2006 due to a few bad checks that were written. I paid my restitution and the cases were closed. I went to nursing school in 2013, and before I started school I had to undergo a bakground check, which did not show anything but my past offenses. Imagine my surprise when in May of 2014 I was stopped due to speeding and they had an arrest warrant dating back to the previous offenses! (The reason why it didn't show up on my background check was, and I quote, "We didn't enter it in the state computer until like a month ago") If that had shown up on my background I would have taken care of it before it turned into an arrest! Now, all of these are misdemeanors, but am I doomed to never get my license? I am looking to be licensed in Alabama. Thank you for any info you can offer!

Best to talk with the BoN and a couple of attorneys. Good luck.

IT does seem like someone was awfully slow about entering this into "the system". Entered it after you already took care of it, right? Maybe the Police Commissioner's office should look into why someone didn't enter this more timely? I have "police commissioner" on my mind because I've been watching "Blue Bloods" lately. That might be going too high.

The county that did not enter it into the system claimed they handled it "on their own". Apparently they used to have a person that did nothing but handle bad checks. But, that person has been retired for quite a while! The warrant was taken out NINE years ago! This has been an extremely frustrating experience. Due to this county's negligence, it cost me a lot more than just taking care of the situation.

I'm interested in finding outlying how your situation ended; were you able to get your license?
