CA student w/ recent DUI - PLS HELP

Nurses Criminal

Published

I am currently in nursing school in CA. I was arrested in March 2014, and am graduating in May 2014. My court date is in June. Based on many of the stories of students in CA who receieved a DUI during nursing school, it looks like I'll be denied and will have to wait a while to be licensed. I want to do whatever I can to be able to start working as an RN right away since I have a lot of loans and bills I need to pay. I am considering treatment programs / getting medically cleared by an MD or physchiatrist like many people have suggested, but I dont have insurence and need to save my money. Has anyone had luck with getting their ATT after being medically cleared? I'm looking into applying out of state for license, I am wondering how long it take to receive your att and license out of CA, and what the process is to work in CA or apply for a CA license afterwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, since I am not technically convicted until my court date in June, is this something they will see through my fingerprints? Will they even look at my application until my court date? Has anyone had luck with lawyers or attorneys? Thanks to anyone who can help me!!!

Unfortunately, you will have to fess up about your CA DUI to almost any state (if not every state) that you apply to licensure in, so trying to get licensed in another state to skirt around it won't work.

And even should you manage to get licensed in another state, if you want to work in CA you're going to have to apply for endorsement and face up to the BRN about your record.
