septic pedophile wanted by FBI

i took care of a belly case that turned septic within the past two days. we found out yesterday morning that he is wanted by the fbi for pedophilia.. he has cancer all throughout, is sick and septic, and probably will not make it out of the hospital.. most of the nurses say he should die and good for him for having cancer.. i kept saying that he and we are here to not judge and treat for why they are hospitalized.. many don't think so.. let the future or karma or whatever hold what it may.. my question, or inquiry is, what are your thoughts on this issue?

Innocent until proven guilty applies only in a court of law. It means you can't be sentenced for a crime unitil you've been convicted by a jury of your peers (on the other hand, you can still be incarcerated up until your trial). It isn't an obligation for Joe Q. Public to reserve judgment, particularly if the facts are compelling. I would never gossip about any patient, though, b/c of ethical and professional considerations.

I would not do anything against him, but I would have no sympathy for him. If he was my patient, I would still carry out the orders, give him his meds, and so on, but I can't say I would give him that extra care I give to my other patients; back rubs, a touch on the arm for reassurance. I just couldn't do it. He is a sick individual that got what he deserves. I am only human. I would do no harm, but definately would not go the extra mile. And for judging him, how could you not? What if it were one of your kids he had touched?

You all are better people than I am. I would give the required care, but would have no sympathy. As far as reporting him? In a NEW YORK minute. Wouldn't bat an eye.

I'd be a nurse and that would be it. Is it a for certain he is what you think he is? I gave up a long time back asking criminals/inmates why they were in hospital when one told me he raped and strangled his 3 year old. Never asked again. Thank goodness they send the prisoiners back to the jail after surg. now. They'd have a guard but he's sit outside the room and we hadda go inside alone. DInt like that a tall.

If someone would come in the ER undr arrest we'd be told to call security when they'd discharge him and they call the police and the cops come and put him back under arrest. Like we were jailers or something.

What about the person who has unpaid parking tickets? Or the prostitute who comes in with an STD? Report these people?

I think there is a BIG difference between someone who is already wanted by a FEDERAL agency for suspected abuse and someone who is a prostitute or has unpaid parking tickets.

And if you noted, i said the "hospitals" responsiblity to report, not individual nurse. If it comes to the nurses attention this person might be wanted then its her responsibility to report to administration and let THEM follow up. Not gossip. As nurses its also our duty to protect the rest of our patients. It's an administrative duty to deal with this type of situation, since THEY have access to legal counsel etc to handle any violations of someone's "rights".

To the best of my knowledge, the FBI doesn't involve itself with unpaid parking tickets or prostitution. Those aren't federal crimes, so none of us need concern ourselves with such a scenario.

Someone with that kind of demon hounding them...I can't help but feel sorry for. How awful for his victims, but how much worse for his family! Can you imagine what that patient's parents must feel, having a son who did such things?

BTW..I was molested several times as a child and young teen, fortunately nothing that caused permanent damage. And yet I still can't hate someone like that. Not that I'm a great person....I just feel for both sides of that issue.

I'm not unsympathetic towards his family, but they don't get to be the wronged party here. They're losing a loved one after having years to make peace with the fact, time to say goodbye, make arrangements, etc. Their victims (and the families are victims, too!) had life snuffed out without warning, no time to say goodbye, no time to wrap things up. One day they're here and the next day- poof. Nononono, not how much worse for his family. There is nothing worse than losing a child to an animal like this- the death penalty is positively humane by comparison.

How much worse for his family? How is that. His victims will suffer for the rest of their lives. These were children he messed with. His actions will shape their thoughts, feelings, and probably just about everything else in their lives. You are one of the lucky people who were able to cope with and deal with what happened to you.Which is absolutely wonderful, you are a very strong person for doing so. Many others are not so fortunate. I did a rotation in a child psychiatric facility for clinicals during school. Many were abused. Tell them that you feel sorry for the parents of this beast. These children are not going to be normal functioning beings for a long while, if ever. I don't mean to come across harsh, however I have no tolerance or sympathy for somebody as vile as he is.

I have a friend who's in prison.... who is innoscent.... but is gay, and was framed.... his situaion has been appealed, and now he's applying for a change of v enue....

Up till now, i'd never thought i'd be sympathetic to someone who was charged with child molestation..... but in this case i know for a fact that Tom did not do this.... yet he's in prision.... and could end up in the hosp situation similar to this patient.....

i don't see what gay has to do with it, but anyway. no, i didn't witness any act... presumption was made when, not the police, but the feds were involved.. yea, could be just a guestimate.. and i hate to be one of them.. it's easy to follow some path, and i can't say where i may wander to. it's just sort of funny that people will speak and chat about things rather quickly, such as a high schooler would, and make an opinion from sought or naught. beware all!!!

Long story short....

Small rural town... majorily homophobic...

boy age 12 or 13 in school, in gym locker room, showering with another boy.... about same age.... touching each other.

When caught and confronted.... by school principal and and parents.... the boys said.... well hey what can you expect, when i was in daycare with a queer guy.

Tom had come out as being gay over the last year or 2....

Boys went to therapy... and somehow one of them came up with something about being touched sexually at age 3.

Tom was never alone with the kids.... and had others who were willing to

testify for him... the judge, allowed a lot of gay history, and gay comments and slurs during the trial....

so much that the verdict was appealed and they won the appeal, and the judge and prosecuting attorney both were reprimanded by the courts.

However the appeal is still going to be in the same town, with the same judge..

Sorry for all the info.... but this is the quickest way to explain it all.
