References after Interview

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I recently interviewed for a PHN position on Monday and thought it went well. I am a new grad RN and have been at my current job for about 3 1/2 months. When they asked me why I was looking for a different job after such a short time, I was honest as I told them I felt acute care/hospital nursing was not the right fit for me, I had always had an interest in community and public health and wanted to continue my career in that area. I found out that they called my current manager on Thursday as a reference for me which I was fine with. So my question is this: is it a pretty good sign when a prospective employer calls your current manager for a reference or does it not really mean much at all? I'm just not quite sure what to think. Any advice and answers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Yikes, did that manager know you are looking for another job? I would hope most employers do not call your current employer unless they were really interested in you! So personally I would take that as a good sign.
