Walden University MSN Nursing Informatics

Hi everyone,

I am considering Walden's MSN nursing informatics program and was wondering if anyone here has completed the program or is currently enrolled, and what you think of the program. Do you feel the program helped advance your career in nursing informatics?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi there!

I'm currently enrolled in their program. Today is actually the first day of my classes. This is the first time I've taken an online course. I'm starting to have second thoughts, not because of any problems with the school, it's just that I don't know if I'm mentally prepared for this. The course load seems to be challenging and very time consuming. I'm just wondering if there is an easier, less demanding, (and cheaper) alternative..maybe a certificate program or something. I was really reluctant to pursue another degree program, but I felt it was the only way to get my foot in the door for a career in informatics...Anywhoo, enough of my rambling, good luck to you in whatever you decide!

I am currrently enrolled in the program and I love it!! I can work on the curriculum at my leisure and find that it doesn't overwhelm me. I usually spend about 10 hours a week on my coursework.

Am enrolled. It is also my first online learning environment. A bit challenging for me, because there is a fair bit of reading required, and I am not an avid reader. But it is highly related to what I hope to do in the future. Good Luck

please am interested i had RN,BNSC all in Nigeria.pls wat is the total tuition for the whole program.

You need to contact the school directly for tuition costs.

Good Luck!

Onegoodnerve, how is Walden's MSN in Nursing Informatics? Is the coursework manageable with a full-time job?

Rose_njarvis, how is Walden's MSN in NI so far?

I am seriously considering this program, but would like to get input on student experiences.

Hi there!

I actually ended up switching to a different program, not because I was having any problems, I just realized informatics wasn't my passion. But the program is not that bad. It is time consuming, weekly writing and discussion assignments, but if you manage your time well it's manageable. You'll have a reading assignment, then have to make your first disscussion post usually by Weds. Then you have to respond to at least 2-3 other classmates by Sat. Then there is a paper due every Sun, usually 2-3 pages. Keep in mind both the paper and the discussion papers have to be substantial written in APA format, not something you can just throw together. I found the discussions and reading topics very interesting and thought provoking. It does take up a lot of time and it can be a pain, but if I can do it anyone can. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Onegoodnerve, Thank you for responding. Did you remain at Walden University and just switch to another program?

Or did you pursue your MSN at another university?

I'm currently in the education program, but just starting and still in the classes everyone has to take. Just a heads up, they are completely revamping the program in September, although those already enrolled can still follow the original program. My classes are 8 weeks long with the exception of the intro class which is 4. The only semester with more than one class at a time is the first one, and it's busy. Each class has a weekly discussion post with 3 required responses and a paper. The first 4 weeks had me wondering what I'd gotten my self into, but I'm now finished the intro class and things are settling down. Not sure how it will work with the new program and classes being 12 weeks long.

Sweet_Wild_Rose, Thank you for letting me know how much is required each week, and that program is changing. I'm glad its settling down for you. I bet you've already established a routine for yourself for the first couple of courses.
