should I accept an IT job

I have been an RN since 2006 and I was recently offered a position as an applications analyst in the MIS department of my hospital. I was LPN for 10 years before getting my RN and have always worked with computer documentation. Other than working with computers for documentation, I have very little computer experience. I am having serious doubts about whether I should take the job. I am afraid I won't be good at it and that I will be bored at a "desk" job. Any advice

Greetings mcclatchey5,

They offered you the position. Which makes me think someone thinks you would be good at it or they wouldnt have offered it to you.
Take a look at the interview questions I have on the forum and make sure you know what the role is and what the expectations are. If your fear is being stuck behind a desk ask if you will have any contact with the clinical users in the course of your new job. In my current role I round daily on the clinical inpt units and have daily contact with clinicians. I dont sit behind a desk all day.
I'd suggest taking the position, seeing how it is for 1 year and if you dont like it, the bedside will always be there to come back to. Just make sure you have a good idea what the role will require of you, that there will be a learning curve and that the financial compensation meets your needs before you take the position.
Good Luck!

I can tell you that my job is far from a desk job. It's as bad as the floor, except the calls are from other facility employees, not patients. I can't go to the ladies room without being Shanghaied.
