hi guys! how can i become a PHLEBOTOMIST here in the Phil? thank you!

i havent heard of a phlebotomist job back there, as far as i know it is the med tech who draws blood in the hospitals. correct me if im wrong.

yes..that's what i knew too.. but some of the clinic here, they require nurses who are phlebotomist..i'm planning to apply actually, but the problem is i'm an IV Therapist Nurse and not a phlebotomist. now i'm confused.

in the hospital where i work here in cebu spefically chong hua hospital, they train nurses for phlebotomist where they are the one task to draws blood in the patient care unit.

exactly, im looking for an institution who conduct training for nurses to be a phlebotomist. Does anyone know any institution?

i dont see any wrong if you will drew a blood since you are an iv nurse. im not an iv nurse here in the us but we drew blood and insert heplocks here.

drawing blood from the antecubital area is fairly the same as inserting and drawing from the distal metacarpal veins... you just have to increase your angle a little bit. Especially when working in the Emergency department or working on a stat order, and it takes too long for the med tech to come, the nurse should be the one to draw the blood. However when drawing the blood from the metacarpal vein, it sometimes takes a while and you risk the formation of a blood clot. that is why thru experience and the supervision of a senior nurse, we learn.

Why don't you try at Philippine National Red Cross?..They may give you certificates...just check it out...:)

thank you for all the responses!

i don't think Philippine Red Cross have a Phlebotomy course or even IVT therapy training, they do have Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support though which can really help esp. if you're planning and/or you're enthusiastic about prehospital life support.

ciao! :heartbeat

hmmmm...Philippine Red Cross doesn't offer phlebotomy training, although, when u become their volunteer in the blood bank area, they will teach you how to do it, but I don't think they'll give you certificate as a "nurse phlebotomist"

>>in my case, one hospital hired me to become their nurse phlebotomistmed techs, will going to train me further for infant and child blood extraction.

>>>hope that helps :)
