Filipino Nurses who passed the NCLEX without the help of Review Center

after a year of starting this thread, which was so helpful for me, i am now participating and will answer each question as i have dreamed and imagine for so long.:hpygrp:

1. what are the materials that you used?

saunder's, kaplan question trainer, lippincott, nclex made increadibly easy, prioritization, delegation and assignment by la charity and my lil notebook where i would write anything i want to, to help me remember facts.:wink2:

2. how many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

4-6 hours a day. 100 questions a day but increased it to 200 two weeks before the exam.

3. how many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

almost a year but concentrated 2 months before the exam. i read kaplan question trainer twice.saunders for foundation and theories. focus on prioritization, delegation, infection control, some meds, computations and my weak areas 2 weeks before the exam.

4. what are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

1. i used an erasable pad so it feels like answering a paper pencil exam.

1.elimination. narrowing answers into two. very effective!

2.critical thinking by using abc, maslow's, triage

3.first thought answer. i try not to change what comes to my mind first.its like my mind arguing with itself. during the exam im talking to my self like "no this is not the one" "why do u say so" its "because" "ya you are correct" "so lets pick this"

4. breath comfortably.just feel relaxed. prayed before i started. stretched my back and neck when i cannot choose an answer.

5. read the questions twice.i looked for keywords.

take one at 75 questions!!!! :yeah:

hi! did you use the 4th edition of saunders comprehensive review or the 3rd edition? i bought my 3rd edition last year but never used it. i plan to use it now for the nclex exam which i plan to schedule october or early nov.. thanks!! :)

hi, nursemich! did you use the 4th edition of saunders? i bought the 3rd edition last year but nevr used it. i'm afaid it might go to waste if i buy the 4th edition if they are almost similar in contents

Sorry, but the CDs are not similar in content and there are none of the new format questions on the 3rd edition.

If you are going to pay $350 for the exam, as well as the licensing costs, would advise you to get the 4th edition to have the best chance in passing the exam.

i used the 4th edition.:) the cd is much better, very user friendly than any other cd because you can exit,close your computer then you can continue whenever you want it and continue on where you have left. i love the pharmacology and prioritization specific topic of q and a. :redpinkhe

Thank you... I really thank God that my efforts paid off... because if not, I would not know how much more I can give to review for a second take of NCLEX...

i agree! wouldn't want to go through that again too, God is good!

Passed with 75q last July 28, but it took me almost two hours! Not easy really, congrats again! :yeah:

i don't have p2200 now because i'm saving my money for kaplan review course (i will start august 18)... (i hope i have the time to read it by heart... kaplan has a very tight schedule)

I bought the Saunders 4th edition just yesterday. Although I was already halfway with Saunders 3rd edition, I still decided to get the latest.

In the 4th ed, alternate item format questions were added but the rest of the end-chapter questions are almost the same. I haven't tried the cd yet because I'm following Suzanne's study guide. I hope to be able to get the 2nd part of the study guide soon. =)

8 hours a day. What I did was read Compre, then answered every chapter. I honestly don't know how many questions I did per day.

3. How many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

3 weeks.

Maslows. ABC.

First thing that came to mind. Prob why I finished so quickly.

i bought my 4th edition too when i was halfway with my 3rd edition. My thoughts? stick with your third edition! your better off with the 3rd edition plus buying a new material with the new alternate type questions ( such as saunders q and a or saunders alternate type questions)

If you don't have the book, buy the 4th edition but if you have the third edition stick with it.

also, they only added 200 questions from the 3rd edition question bank. then added some colors to some images and what not. click here to see for yourself and compare
