What are your plans as a RN?

I don't know if it's only me seeing/reading these posts here like "I don't know what to do", "I can't find a job", "looking for work several years with no experience", etc. It is sad to say that dreams of going abroad to the US will be halted for several years. I am not even sure if the 5 years would be enough. It could be even more. As I have been observed here and from my colleagues, taking the NCLEX, CFGNS, IELTS, has been like a mandatory for them to take not knowing the real scenario ahead.

I have been doing some thinking lately that there should be something done or information being spread to BSN graduates. I think with the cooperation of everybody especially Filipino RNs in the US can contribute. If it takes a sticky with bold capital letters saying retrogression is on going. I think it can be done for starters. It is really unfortunate to hear such remarks from fellow colleagues who are losing hope and distracted in their nursing career. Appropriate Nursing diagnosis would be Knowledge Deficient. Anybody feels the same way? Do you have any more ideas?

For those nursing students, newly BSN graduates, RNs with or without experience, please let us know your short term or long term concrete plans. Any plans you have in mind, post it here. I know a lot of people here are willing to give information or guide you in achieving those plans.

we just hope that US economy bounce back soon and unemployment here in US would go down. in the near future ,RN jobs here in US would open again specially for pinoy nurses which is prefered by employers here.me? my plans as RN.have a vacation in PI miss it so bad,and Find a young wonderful cute filipina GF.he he he;)

All I want to say is thank you for appreciating pinoy nurses...

hello,

My first post for this site but I have been a member for a long while. Im really grateful for all the helpful stuff i read in here.

I graduated from nursing school March 2005 and luckily passed the june 2005 NLE. Did volunteer work in private hospital then later became a staff member while gaining experience I took exam (CGFNS/IELTS). Pass application to work abroad and now im here in Riyadh. Before coming here I have my US application with another agency which is still on packet 3. But then as we all know US is in retro so the next move is to try canada, UK or NZ. I have application with those three whichever comes first. Im thinking of working 2 years in each country and be able to tour those beautiful land. Then I wanted to vonlunteer in either International Red Cross or WHO. One step at a time :)

I'm living my dream already! Hope everything turns out fine here in Canada..

hi there. Congratulations! As a fellow nurse, I admire you and of course, at the back of my mind, i envy you. So how were you able to get a job there in Canada? My family is in CA, USA but as you know its very difficult even when i already have the requirements. My father wants me to 'target' going to Canada, because then, it will be easier to transfer to the US. Thanks. Hoping for your response.

thanks! for sharing and words of encouragement. Are in the US now?

Yes. I passed my NCLEX on my 2nd and last attempt last Nov. 16, 2009 and I'm currently working as a nurse at a LTC facility. The pay is really good.

this is my first time to post here in allnurses. my plans, i guess i have to go to saudi. the hospitals here are exploiting us, instead of paying for our services, it's the other way around.

we can't blame them. it's a sad truth.

Canada is having a difficult time employing the nurses already here. The health authority I work with recruited in the Far East two-three years ago. Several nurses are required to return to country of origin because their work permits will not be renewed. They signed a two year contract and the two years are soon up.

Our locally educated new grads are unemployed.

Tell your father Canada doesn't enjoy being considered a "target" for use as a stepping stone to the US. We like to think that people actually want to live here and contribute to the country that accepts and employs them.

Thank you all.:redbeathe

nice....;)

I just graduated last March, and passed the July 2010 PNLE..My plans are to complete bls and ivt since most of the hospitals I browsed here requires those two..By the time I complete those, I think there would be openings in hospitals then I'll try my luck to apply as a staff nurse..I'm hopeful I have a chance since I have good credentials but not so sure about the padrino system..sigh..sometimes I feel down just reading discouraged nurses here in the forum...

Hey heartilly, don't feel weary about the negative feedback you've been hearing about applying for a nurse entry level position. I was like you 2 years ago. I didn't have the guts to go on job hunting in hospitals nor attend seminars which are usually required for employment. I thought I could stay in the call center first and wait until hospitals openly announce that they are in need of new staff nurses. I realized I waisted 2 years of my life being under the negative impressions I got when I looked at my nursing colleagues' situation. Unlike me who opted to test the waters in an entirely different field, they chose to wait for a call from the hospitals they applied at.

Had I submitted my requirements earlier and taken advantage of the trainings, I could have been with them working as a staff nurse now. I don't have any regrets though & I have just signed up for IVT training.

I have mapped out my plans for my nursing career and I don't expect the consequences to be easy. As long as you are doing something to be where you really want to be at, you should keep your hopes high. God helps those who help themselves.

Thanks mikeru22..That lightened my outlook..I'm not going to stray away from this career that I've worked so hard earning. Besides, it's not yet time for me to give up. I haven't even tried yet. :nurse:

I'm going to have my bls next week..Then IVT come november at veterans. Hope all goes well for us in our trainings.:yeah:
