Wants to pursue Nursing!!

Hello fellow nurses!

I am new here, but I've been reading a lot of threads and articles here in allnurses.

Here's my dilemma.. I am from the Philippines. I graduated and passed the local board last 2011 and was not able to practice it since then. I wasn't even able to attend the oathtaking since I have to work right away to support my brother and pay off debts left to support my studies.

Like many others, I worked in the BPO industry that helped me a lot with my financial issues. And though I am working in a diff industry, my heart and passion is still with the nursing profession. I always love nursing and always thinking of going back but it has neen three years since I passed and haven't used my skills since then.

I have tried to search for a refresher course but I dont know where to start. A lot of hospitals offer refresher course with pay but its not a guarantee that you will be absorbed. I really want to pursue my career and I hope I can get an advise on where should I start and what specialization I can take or if you know a hospitals who accept nurses like me.

I am a passionate nurse and I am willing to give all of my best to succeed and help others.

Thank you!

Can you talk to someone from your school of nursing to get some guidance? I don't know what your country requires of someone in your situation. If you're looking to get a job in the US, well, many of our own graduates are having trouble finding jobs. I think you would have a lot of trouble finding a job here, given your circumstances.

Hello Donna, I had the same predicament. I worked in a call center right after taking the board exam and stayed there for five long years. I was doing well as an associate, I got promoted and was tasked to support newbies and just when I was about to be given the Team Lead post as another promotion, I resigned to join the RNHEALS program in 2013. I was fearful, doubtful, unsure of what lies ahead and a bit hopeless as to what's in it for me. I always wanted to be a nurse but there weren't any opportunities back then so I impulsively left my job to join the training program which only gave me 1/8 of my total monthly earning when I was still working in a call center.

Within that same year, another door opened for me in which I was offered a job in a local government hospital as a staff nurse. If you really want it, you would never stop trying until you are offered a post in any hospitals that would develop, nurture and establish your career as a nurse. First things first, submit your documents to as many institutions as you can. Take the basic training like BLS, ACLS and IVT to equip you and pray unceasingly until something good happens.

It's never too late for anyone who has the heart to serve and do things for others who can't do anything for themselves. Where your heart is, there your treasure will be also so go for it!

No need to rush. You're still young. I know some who are way older than you that are still out of nursing profession.
