New Grad (Canadian) Question

Hi guys!

I am a new LPN grad from Canada (graduated this Spring) and I have a question!

It has become a recent dream of mine to move far away from what I consider home and work in my new profession. I was thinking about moving to somewhere in the states (Vegas is at the top of my list and I'm really not sure why, its just the total opposite from where I currently live, I guess!)

So my question for you is: Does anyone have an tips or info for making an international move into the US, what sort of steps I need to take, and if it's worth doing as an LPN? Have any of you Canadians done this?

I ask if it's worth doing as an LPN because there's talk here in Canada that there aren't really a whole lot of opportunities for LPNs in the states.

Nope. You won't qualify for a NAFTA visa.

Read some of the American state threads. LPNs down south can have extremely limited employment prospects and depending on the area, you'll make far less in wages. Add in most jobs there aren't unionized.

The grass isn't greener across the 49th.

Stay home, make a good wage, a good scope of practice and travel on you vacation or save and do a huge road trip.

Agreed. I won't even consider moving to the US anymore, and I'm an RN. As Fiona said job prospects are limited, working conditions are poor, lower pay and no union in most States.

Working across the border was very lucrative, but those times are over.
