More bad news at AHS - layoffs

Welcome to our world. In addition to our TCU closing a while back, a unit has closed four beds and laid off ten staff. It's not just RNs despite what UNA is telling the media

What makes it worse is the beds closed in January and they are just laying the staff off now, when the units had got used to the extra staff.

We are hearing that units are constantly working short. Sick calls not being replaced.

It's getting bad everywhere, even in the U.S...we closed one of our floors awhile back, redesigned the staffing (basically do more with less staff), employees who are leaving aren't getting replaced...and now employees are getting laid off.

AHS is also closing the facility in Bashaw and there have been discussions for months about reduced hours at my facility. And it is both RNs and LPNs affected by this.

The scary part is....we continue to move in the wrong direction. In order to save money, the shortage is only getting worse, affecting both the laid off workers and the staff who must continue to work in unsafe environments.

So happy my primary employer isn't AHS anymore. Although it's not so great working for a university right now either.
