Just got hired for my 1st Rn Job!!

I am uber excited about getting a job! A little about me: I'm a recent Rn grad from Miami who relocated to Atlanta last May. Became licensed last September, and began my Job Search in December (delayed my job search due to a trip my husband and I had planned to take in November). Within one week I think I applied to about twenty-five jobs.

Towards the end of that week I got two calls for interviews; one for a Plasma donation center and one for a outpatient pain center. I went on the interview for the pain center first, which at the end didn't seem too promising. It turned out to be more of a Dr's office, there would only be one nurse and that nurse needed to have Iv skills (which I don't have) and didn't really seem like they were into training a new nurse (even though their job posting said they would). They said they'd make a decision in about a week but I was pretty sure they already knew who they wanted and it wasn't me. I kinda got the feeling like they were interviewing me just because I was already scheduled to come in, not because they were interested.

Two days later I had my interview at the Plasma Center and it was great! Everyone there seemed very welcoming and pleasant, I had two interviews with them that same day and got hired on the spot! My job title will be Physician Substitute, I'll be conducting physicals on new donors, medical history assessments, counseling donors if blood tests reveal that they have hiv, hepatitis, etc.

I think that this job will be a great start for me alot of hospitals won't hire unless you have experience, or a Bsn...here I can bone up on my assessment skills, iv skills, interventions if a donor is having an adverse reaction. Being a new nurse in this totally saturated nursing markets you have to be willing to be flexible! I would eventually like to work in an hospital setting for now I will do this, gain experience and see how things flow from here. For those who have been on the job hunt for awhile with no success, try plasma centers, small clinics or urgent care centers, school nursing, correctional institutions, etc. There is life outside of hospitals, don't be afraid! You can always apply to hospitals after you get a some experience.
