Hi everyone! Just had a quick question and wondering how others may have dealt with this situation. When submitting a cover letter typically I like to personalize it to the unit I'm applied for. Recently while submitting applications, many hospital websites have you create your own account which includes a general profile/application so if you apply to multiple jobs within the same hospital the information is already there. For the cover letter however, you are not able to submit individual ones, just one for that "general application." For example, I've submitted an application for a position on a cardiology unit but I am also interested in applying to the general medical floor. Since I've already submitted the cardiology cover letter, it won't let me add a different one for the medical floor without changing my cover letter for the cardiology floor. Does anyone have any suggestions for writing a "general" cover letter not individualized to a specific floor? Or what would your suggestion be to dealing with this situation.

Gah, I hate this, too! I hate omitting stuff that's specific to positions, but I've had to keep it generalized, and leave it to my resume to cover the rest. I would go into your strengths that would pertain to most units, like quick learner, flexible, etc, along with any prior experience you may have and why you'd be an asset to their team.
thank you for the advice! I hadn't thought about putting the specifics into my resume

A general cover letter could also say that you are looking for the "best fit" for you and would like an opportunity to explore multiple possibilities ... that you are flexible, etc.
