Army Fiance New Graduate

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I just graduated nursing school with my BSN and am engaged to a man in the army. I am also applying for jobs in my home town because we are not sure when we are going to be able to get married, as he will be stationed somewhere new in May of this year and we are not sure where that will be.

If we are able to get married in May, I may have only been working as a new grad for two months. If I move with him and leave that job after only two months, will I have a hard time finding another job as a recent graduate in another state?

We are trying to keep our separation as short as possible but we don't want to make it where I can't work as a nurse. Any advice? Should I wait to apply for jobs in whatever state he will be in? Should we just live separately for a few months while I get experience?

Having less than 6-12 months of experience may set you back. What's the nurse job market like where you are? Are you working at all now? Where is the 2 months coming from, if you already have your BSN, but he's not transferring until May? Have you taken the NCLEX yet?

You might consider just waiting until he gets transferred. He should know soon where he's headed, right? So you wait a little, and apply to that city, stating in your cover letter that you already have plans to move there, and you hope to have a job lined up when that time comes.

I have just been offered a job, and taking the nclex soon. I say two months because my job would start in March, and if we moved in May, I would have been working two months.

Honestly I am not sure when we will know where he is going to be stationed, which is why I am going ahead with my life and getting a job here, because there is a chance he could be stationed in this area and I could stay at this job for a little while.

If he is not stationed in my area, I may just get married and live separately for a few months while I get my experience, so I can have at least 6 months to fall back on. I just would rather not because we would be newlyweds.
