How long can a postictal state last?

I have a friend who is epileptic and recently had 6 seizures while at the hospital on 6/26/10. The doctor is telling me that his confusion, diorientation and postural instability is a result of being in a postictal state. The longest time frame that I can find where someone has symptoms related post seizure is only up to a week. It has been at least 45 days. I think I am getting inaccurate information. Anyone have an answer to how log a postictal state can last?
