Degree Requirements for Teaching at Community College or University Level???

i have been a labor and delivery/newborn nursery rn for the past 8 years. my goal is to teach at the community college or university level. i want to lecture, but not do the clinical teaching....is that an option when you become nursing faculty or do you have to do both? also, what is the degree requirements for teaching at the university level.....bsn or msn or doctorate?

Most community colleges require a Master's (minimum) for lecture faculty positions, although they may use some BSN-prepared people as clinical instructors.

Colleges and universities with BSN programs require a minimum of a Master's; most prefer a doctorate. Some require doctorates and won't consider Master's-prepared people (or use them only as clinical instructors).

As to whether or not you could lecture without also teaching clinical, that would depend on several things, and there isn't a clear "yes/no" answer to that. Yes, it is possible, but it would depend on things like the policies/preferences of the individual school, how much seniority you had within the department, who else was available to teach the clinical courses, etc. You might well be able to "work your way up" over time to not having to teach clinical. I doubt there are any schools of nursing out there that would offer you a position teaching OB nursing but guarantee/promise you up front that you would never have to teach clinical ...
