Conflict of interest or not?

Is it a conflict of interest to be employed at a facility as a staff nurse and to be the clinical instructor (employed by college) for the same facility?

I work Prn at a hospital and was told by the college I could not be an adjunct instructor that takes student to that facility. However, I know plenty of educators employed at hospitals, that are also employed by a college in which they bring students to their hospital. Is it because they are the hospital educators and I'm just a staff nurse? Is it a conflict of interest as I will be off the clock as a hospital employee?

I also work as an adjunct instructor and prn as a staff nurse at the same hospital where I take my students. My college actually prefers adjunct faculty working at a hospital they are familiar with i.e. charting and policies. We can even have our students on the same floor we work however I prefer not to. When I'm with my students I make it well known that I'm not working as a hospital employee.

Ya. I think it would be very beneficial to them as I know the units, faculty, policies...etc. Thanks!

When I was a student it was helpful when our clinical instructor had inside knowledge based upon their current or prior employment at the clinical site. I never saw any conflict of interest or problem, but I can see how either the school or the clinical facility would want to avoid any possibility of problems.

I took clinical students to two different hospitals in which I worked (during different time periods). Back in those days, I worked as a nurse part time and taught part time. It was very helpful to me and to my students for me to know people, know where things were, and know the policies and procedures. It eased the way for the students immensely. One catch was that I could be nurse to patients one day and they could be confused when I was there in my different role another day. Other than that it was super.
