Hi All, I am curious. What would you conclude if your LPN students did not know how to correctly write a nursing care plan, state they do not know what "patho is" and do not know how to prioritize nursing DX and nursing interventions (actual problem versus at risk for) on a care plan? They are scheduled to graduate in a few weeks. Comments Please! Thanks.

I'd wonder how they've made it this far in nursing school. Good luck to them on their boards!

Hello and Thanks for your response. Like you, I wondered how they made it that far in their program. Their care plans were atrocious, but I gave additional teaching and key nursing factors for the students to analyze and learn. The revised care plans that were later submitted were much better, and they learned how to correctly prioritize nursing diagnosis, nursing interventions, and how to correctly describe pathophysiology. The students learned how to critically think about patient care and write care plans predicated on their patient care (they may hate my guts as their instructor, but they learned). Job accomplished!!!!

as long as they learned you did your job. :-)
