Hello there, I am currently an LVN in the LVN to RN transition class. I should graduate next May with my associates degree. After I pass my state boards I am planning to get my BSN & MSN through university of phoenix. I am hoping to be able to teach nursing. Any advice or suggestions you could offer me?

Welcokme. My advice: get as much nursing experience as you can. what I mean is, try to get a good variety of experience. This makes you more marketable. Recently, I've seen a few ads that ask for more than one specialty. A friend of mine who is graduating with her MSN is a little concerned b/c all of her experience is concentrated in maternal/child. Some of the ADN programs out here expect that you can teach more than one specialty. Right now I'm lecturing in peds, and doing clinicals in M/S.

As for the schooling- just keep on going.

Ok, thanks for the tip. Will any of my LVN experience count do you think? I've worked in a wide variety of areas as an LVN already, just curious............

Are you planning to teach in LVN school, ADN or BSN? Many schools expect you to have MSN if you are teaching ADN/BSN, so check out your options. I think you would have a lot to offer an LVN school especially. Check out the relative salaries too. If you do not get MSN ask your advisor about taking courses in the Education dept. to broaden your base. It is helpful to know how to be an educator just as well as how to be a nurse. Good luck!

I don't know yet if I want to teach LVN or RN, but I do know that I want my MSN.
