Which route for nursing career?

Nurses Career Support

I am planning to get my BSN degree here in the US. I have a medical degree from the Philippines and have practiced in Family Medicine for a few years before I came here and started a family. Unfortunately, I didn't take the USMLE immediately after coming here. Now that I want to go back into the medical field, the only avenue I see is through the nursing profession. I had my transcripts evaluated by the IERF and after presenting it to the university, I have 5 semesters to hurdle to get my BSN which I may start in the fall of '08. From there, I may go to study more to become a NP, which is the closest I can get to practicing medicine over here.

Is there anyone here who took LPN course prior to BSN? Is it a better route and is the transition easy so that when you decide to get the BSN degree, all units from LPN are credited? Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lots of people get their LPN prior to getting their RN, but there aren't many LPN to BSN programs in the USA, but there are many many LPN to RN-ADN programs around.
