What to do with my bachelor's degree in the health care world?

Nurses Career Support

Hi all,

I am looking for some or any career advice. To make this a long story short, I am no longer graduating with a nursing degree but rather a bachelors in science. This has been a huge change for me which is why it is difficult to picture something other than nursing. So, my question then is what can I do with a bachelors of science in the health care world? I still would like to have direct patient care. I love the hospital setting but am open to other setting/situations. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please help!

Specializes in OR, Nursing Professional Development.

What major is the degree granted for? It would help to know that to be able to answer your question.

It is an interdisciplinary degree. So it really is just a bachelors of science. No specific subject area.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

At this point, your degree does not have any clinical relevance. You could work in an unlicensed role after completing sufficient training - some employers have training programs for nurse aids / patient care techs, transporters, phlebotomists, etc. In order to advance to any other patient care role, you will need to qualify for a license of some sort.

I've been a cna for 4 years now. Id really like to be able to use my degree somehow and start making a living. Right now an aid salary just barely pays the bills, especially now that I'll have start paying back my student loans.
