Urology nurse/ urodinamic testing

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi guys, I just got offer a job as a Urology nurse part time in miami Florida. It involves doing urodinamic testings, pelvic floor rehab , anorectal manometry and other things. I have never done it and have no experience, I was wondering what is the hourly pay rate, they asked me how much I wanted to get pay and I said no less than 30, and they said that it was ok. I do have to use my own car to go to the doctors clinics and it's pretty far from my house. Anyone has any idea on this type of job, pay, growth potential... Anything? I would really appreciate any feed back, thanks a lot in advance for help..:) have a nice day

Hi. I work in a Urology clinic doing Urodynamic testing, pelvic floor therapy, cyst/trus biopsy/stent/etc prep and everything else we do in Urology. I live in upstate NY and get paid $25/hr. Probably geographic differences play into the pay scale. I have also only been a nurse for 2 years and the pay is based on experience where I am. I work with RN's who do less than I do and get paid almost 40 because they came to the clinic when they had already been nurses for 20+ years. Wahhh!

Anyways, it's pretty task oriented. Urodynamics is kind of interesting, but I honestly dislike pelvic floor therapy. So boring in my opinion. Any specialty gets monotonous...at least in my opinion. But it's not a terrible gig in Urology... as long as you are able to switch things up and not having to do only PF therapy and Uro. testing all day everyday. One thing I really do like about doing PF and Uro testing is that it's a lot of patient teaching.

Not sure how long I will stay in Urology before I feel I need to break free and do something different. Probably not too long but I've been learning a lot in the passed 6 months. In terms of growth...not sure on that. I mean, it's a specialty...can probably cause career "pigeon-hole"...but again, any specialty would likely do that. I stayed per diem at the hospital to stay fresh with acute care for this reason.

In summary, Urology is a busy specialty with lots going on. It's medical and surgical so lots to learn and do. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Thanks a lot naptime RN, that was actually very helpful and I'm very glad you're from New York cause I'm planning on moving there soon so like that I get an idea of how is it over there..they are scheduling an interview for next week so hopefully it goes well. I fell the same way, any specialty gets monotonous, I have done dialysis for 3 years and I like it but is the same, there is the benefit that onse you learn it well then you can become really good at it.. Again thanks a bunch I appreciate your valuable time and information.. Hope you have an amazing day and keep growing as a nurse :)

Aw, thanks danayp5! If you have any other questions on outpatient Uro, I'm here! Good luck with your interview!

Is this for Consortia Health? Did you end up taking the job? How is it? I've been thinking of doing this type of nursing as it would be a pretty good schedule for my family and I think I'd really enjoy it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you get the job?
