Travel RN looking to try out a clinic or outpatient position

Nurses Career Support

Hey!

I'm a Travel RN, I've been in San Diego and am planning on going to San Francisco next! I typically do Med/Surg and Telemetry but want to try a clinic or outpatient position for my next assignment. Does anyone have advice on what type of work clinic versus outpatient nursing entails? Also, do you recommend any travel nurse agencies that can place you at either of these?

I'm hoping to get into pediatrics as well, so hopefully I can get my foot in the door. I think the change of pace from hospital nursing will be good for me. I love being a nurse, but still haven't found my area of passion yet. Hospital nursing is definitely a big challenge and a lot of responsibility.

Any help/advice I can get would be great!

Hi KParish!

I too was a travel nurse for 10 years in Med- Surg & Tele, and then decided to finally stay here in San Diego after coming back for multiple assignments. I could be mistaken but you would probably have to take a staff position to work in a clinic.

The travel positions I have seen posted for surgery are only for OR and PACU recovery, and not just the pre-op postop/discharge. Although I did work in an outpatient center when I was a traveler for Sharp, it was only because I was floated there from a surgical floor one day.

Where are you heading in SF? I worked at UCSF and had the time of my life. I LOVED San Francisco.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Also, just to add to my previous post, I have seen that many clinics ( such as FP or Peds) tend to hire LVNs here in San Diego.
