Shadow Interview

Nurses Career Support

Published

I made it past the phone interview, interview with the nurse manager and charge nurse, and was offered an opportunity to shadow sometime next week. The manager told me I would not be performing any patient care. She also said I may wear professional clothes or scrubs if I prefer. Anyone with similar experiences? Im unsure of what to expect. This is my final "interview" before they determine if I am qualified for the job or not.

Also are there any specific questions I should ask? I have already asked a lot of questions at the interview with the manager/charge nurse. Any questions they may ask me?

I have only done one shadow interview but I loved it. Like you were told I basically just followed a nurse who showed me an overview of what her day is like and introduced me to the team. She didn't really ask me interview type questions and we basically just talked like nurses to each other. It was very cool. Good luck!

I was told to wear scrubs... the only scrubs I own are my nursing school scrubs that say my schools name on them, would these be appropriate scrubs to wear??

If it is a patch that you can remove I would do that but really think that spending $20 total on a cheap top and pants would be the way to go if you can't remove your schools name. If you really just can't afford that maybe a friend would loan you an outfit for the day? There could be a liability issue because you are not working under the school's supervision.
