reasonable orientation for an experienced nurse?

I am about to start a new job and the orientation will be 8 shifts. I will be going from computer charting back to paper. Do you think 8 shifts is enough? They will be 12s.

It does sound sufficient. Take good notes.

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

Eight shifts sounds excessive. I would be going nuts.

Specializes in SICU.

8 12's sounds pretty reasonable. I loathe paper charts. Read: I loathe trying to decipher crappy handwriting.

Eight shifts doesn't sound bad. I just left a trauma med/surg position because they were only giving me two days orientation because I was considered "experienced". All they thought I needed to do was learn the charting system! Unfortunately I hadn't done telemetry or assessments in about a year due to picking up a rehab position after being laid off from an LTACH that closed. Luckily the rehab position I had previously gladly took me back and from this experience would like to help me refresh my clinical skills in order to work in true acute care again.
