Please help...need advice!

Nurses Career Support

Published

I am starting pre-reqs at a community college next month. What I need advice about is that one moment I am really excited about starting classes and the possibility of becoming a nurse..but then I start to think about how I know I want to be a mom one day and feel like possibly having more of an office type of job would be the best fit like a case manager?? I feel like part of my indecisiveness is just doubting myself and being nervous & anxious for nursing schools- math & science aren't my strongest subjects, so I guess I just doubt my ability. Maybe I will feel better once I start the pre-reqs? I just want to have some sort of plan that I'm in the right direction and making the right choice with my career!

If anyone has ANY advice please let me know!!

Hmm - being a nurse does not disqualify you from motherhood - LOL. Many nurses are working moms.

There are some additional challenges associated with the logistics because we frequently work (what my lovely Brit friend calls) "unsociable hours". It can be difficult to find child care if you work 12 hour nights, weekends or holidays. But we also have the benefit of days off during the week to spend with our kids. Working nights can mean you are available to help with school parties in the afternoon. There are pluses and minuses in all jobs.

In order to become a nurse, you will have to not only take those math and science courses, you will need to make a pretty high grade in order to qualify for entrance to a nursing program. If this is not for you, it may be better to look in a different direction.

Best of luck on your decision.
