Nurses Career Support

Hi All!

Well, I graduated in December 2009. My husband was stationed in South Dakota, and we were due to move in May. So, I took my NCLEX and passed it in March. No one would hire me there since I was moving in just a few months, so I waited until I got to Missouri to get a job. Well...now that we have been here for over 3 months I have been turned down from EVERY position I have applied for. A little background, I graduated with an associates degree, and have zero experience in the health care field, on top of this I was a stay-at-home mom for over 12 years. So not only do I not have an employment history in the last 12 years, I have no medical experience. I have so many strikes against me, I am beginning to get very frustrated. I feel like I am loosing so much of the skills I learned in school. :( I talked to the HR/education department at the local hospital in Warrensburg, MO and she said that working in Med/Surg is the best place to start for the experience. But I applied for all the positions, PT, full-time, and even as a whim a PRN slot. I have applied for post-partum, telemetry, progressive care, you name it, I've tried it all. My next step is the nursing homes. Goodness knows I got plenty of experience in school with this age of the population. I enjoyed it somewhat, but it was not what I thought I would be doing after school. I know that any experience is better than no experience...but will working in a nursing home help me someday move on to other areas of nursing? I just don't know what to do. Anyone out there from the Warrensburg, Missouri area? Anyone have any suggestions? I'll take any suggestions you all have. Thanks.
