Moved and after one month want to go back home

by Kb_09

Hello,
I have been a nurse for a year... wanted to move and try something new. Gain a new experience in a different state. After having just started my new job, I am already thinking about how much I miss where I came from. I miss my friends, family, etc. The hospital is great, Magnet, lots of continuing education offered, and they seem to value nurses... so no problem there, but how soon is too soon to give up and go back home? I thought I would at least give it until December (5 months) but I have been feeling bad lately and kind of want to go back, and I'm not sure I can wait that long... maybe I made a mistake. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks!

What kind of support system do you have in place? Some friends from work? Have you joined a church, a civic group, volunteer somewhere, go back to school?

I joined the military at 19 and went overseas quickly. I was pretty lonely and so joined a church, hung out with friends from work, and volunteered. That filled my time and then I found that I wasn't so lonely.

However, if there is something bigger going on, then maybe you did make a mistake. I would try to stick it out for six months though. Take care...calling home can sometimes substitute for going home.

They say it can take at least a year to adjust to a big move...at five months, I don't think you will have given yourself enough time to acclimate to your new home, IMHO. We moved across country last year and I only now feel somewhat settled. I love our new home, but there definitely are things and people I miss where we used to live. I don't think that ever completely goes away.

TraumaRUs is right, get yourself a support system. You have one major hurdle cleared by obtaining a job you seem happy with so that's wonderful! Give the rest of it a chance and maybe it will come together as well.

Hope things work out for you...good luck!

Thanks for the replys. I will start working on ways to keep myself busy and finding my place to fit in. I just remind myself, if indeed it doesn't work out, I can go back, it's no big deal. I am going to give it a chance though, I understand it takes a while.
