Military Nursing

Nurses Career Support

Published

I am currently about to finish my sophomore year in a BSN program. I am in the very early stages of considering military nursing. I am debating between Navy nursing and Air Force and also unsure of whether to do reserve or active duty.

1. Are you more likely to be deployed to dangerous warzones in the airforce or the navy?

2. Since I only have 2 years left in school, will the airforce not pay for any of my schooling? I know that the navy has the NCP - does the airforce have anything similar?

3. What are the benefits/cons of doing the reserves vs. active duty?

4. I am considering CRNA school - will both pay for that?

5. What are the conditions like on the ships in the navy? How long are you on them for?

6. Where can you work as an AirForce nurse?

7. Where are you most likely to work as an AirForce nurse/Navy nurse (where is the most need)?

Hi! I'm thinking about becoming a Navy nurse also. There are medical clinics on and off base. I know there are different types of fields to work in while in the military. You can stay in the US or out of country. I believe that one is your choice but where in those places might not be.. But just to make sure, go to a recruiter's office. That's what I'll be doing very soon. I'm actually going on a Navy carrier (the ship) today so maybe I can tell you about it(:

Suggest you poke around in the Government/Military Nursing forum a bit.. under "Specialties". You're much more likely to have your questions answered by those experts.

Just because it's in that section doesn't mean they're experts. BTW The experts are the recruiters.
