Good schools in Nashville?

Due to my husband's job transfer, I had to drop out of my ADN program at the beginning of my second year. I am having a problem deciding on another nursing program. The BSN programs at the private universities are sooooo expensive and the ADN programs all have very long waiting lists. Does anyone know anything about Excelsior College, Belmont College in Nashville or Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN? I thought I would be able to get a job in Nashville in one of the hospitals but that isn't happening either. I am so discouraged right now that I'm ready to give up on nursing completely. Any advise would be really great!

Belmont and Cumberland are both very good nursing schools but they are both private and very expensive. I went through Excelsior back when it was called Regents College and it was wonderful. I'm now considering going back for my BSN. Just as a personal goal. There's no more money in it for me.

Truely, there are many options for schools here in Nashville. Since you have already completed some of your nursing curriculum, state schools would be more likely to usher you into their programs, this is how I transferred into a state school despite a long waiting list. Tennessee State University has both a ADN and BSN program. This is the School of Nursing I graduated from. Belmont has a well coordinated program however, this is reflected in cost. Aquinas is also an ADN option with similar cost. Ultimately I would not allow frustration in school program options to dissuade you from nursing.

Also, there are many hospitals in the area that offer employment as an extern or care partner/tech and will recompense for some portion of tuition expenses. Vanderbilt has a great education benefit for the Medical Center employees...

I am a longtime Nashville resident. Talk to nurse recruiter at Vanderbilt, they are very creative and it is a great program, costly but I hear they can make things happen. Other advantage is that it is a great employer. I know a lot of people who work there simply to get reduced tuition for their kids to go to college. website www.vanderbilt.edu
