Did I go in the wrong direction?

  1. I have been a Nurse for over 30 years. I started out as a pediatric staff nurse then moved into pediatric case management, then to nurse management. After 12 years, I moved to nursing informatics. After doing this for a couple of years I moved to a new state in a small town and tried to find a new niche. There were no pediatric units unless I wanted to travel so I went back to case management then managed a skilled care unit and back to Informaticist. So for many of those years I worked M- F, no weekends/ holidays unless I chose to. Mind you I worked 60 hour weeks so you didn't think I took the easy way. A few years ago I decided to go back to staff nursing on the night shift - Med Surg.
Now I am getting burnt out doing the staff nurse routine and feel like I need another change. But what??? I'm 53 and feel like I should settle into my retirement job. How do I take all my experience and find the one job I can keep for the next 15 years? Any suggestions?

I guess if I were you I would just identify which positions were most fulfilling to me, what it was that made them so and then research what types of jobs would be more in step with what you are looking for. However, finding a job you will love or even just tolerate for 15 years? That is too tall of an order. Most people don't stay at jobs beyond 2-5 years anymore. The world changes fast these days and people do as well.

Best of luck whatever you decide.
