Decision on job offer

Hi,

I'm currently looking for a new job. The other day I had an interview at a SNF. The interview went great. The hourly pay is more than what I get now and the benefits are great. However. . .

I was told daylight shift there are only 2 nurses- each nurse gets 20 patients each. Night shift there is only one RN for 40 patients. I was also told that there are 5 CNAs on the floor- unless one or two calls off for some reason. I had an idea where this could lead- pretty much a nightmare. I started having second thoughts. Yesterday I was offered a position and I don't feel good about it.

I would like to transfer to another hospital, but I don't know how long that will take. I was recently hired for a home care position (part-time or casual). I plan on leaving my current job soon as I have nearly reached my ropes end.

Should I accept the SNF job but do it per diem just to make a little extra money or should I just stick with the homecare job until something else comes up (like another hospital position)?

Seems like you already feel too many red flags at the SNF. You do nto care for your current job, but at least it is the evil you know and it is predictable. Home health might be a nice change of pace for you. I would skip the SNF though. Trust your gut.

If your gut is saying NO to the SNF job, trust it! I took a job at a SNF a few months ago against my better judgement, and left after three days - the environment was not one in which I could be successful. Your stomach knows a lot before your brain does, and I've learned to heed it, LOL.

It really stinks to have to search for a job, but IIRC you are in Pittsburgh as well, and there are quite a few openings available.
