Certification: RN-BC vs CVRN?

Nurses Career Support

Hey all.

I'm not really sure I sould post this here or in the cardiac forum, but I posted something similar in the cardiac forum months ago and never got any responses so I'm hoping someone here'll help me out.

I'm currently a tele nurse who is looking into getting certified by the ANCC. But it seems like the more I research certification the more I come up with different kinds of certification. I currently have a BA in another field, an AAS in Nursing, and am working as an RN. I plan to go back to school to get my MSN/FNP (possibly add an MBA in there), but not yet. Probably not for another 3 years or so.

So I love cardiac nursing, plan on continuing in it (at least until I go back to school) and want a certification to kind of tide me over study/academic-wise (yeah, I love school, I'm nerdy like that :) )and be good resume fodder. I've already completed the CEU requirements to apply to become an ANCC Board-Certified Cardiovascular Nurse. But then I found out about the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine which provides "CVRN" 's.

Is there any difference in these kinds of certification? Any recommendations as to which one I should go for? Articles I've found online seem to have publishers with both "RN-BC and CVRN" after their names.

Thoughts? Any input would be great. Thanks!
