Applying online for jobs?

Sooo...I'm a new grad & had originally planned on getting in my car and driving to all the area hospitals to drop off my resume and fill out an application. I started by going to the websites of these hospitals and seeing what they're hiring for. I was surprised at how many places allow you to simply apply online.

I applied for a bunch of jobs online and was able to attach my resume, as well, but...this just seems to easy.

My question is, has anyone gotten a nursing job by simply applying online? Does this really work? Is there anything I should be doing to make my application stand out?

[color=#483d8b]i'm not sure that it is "best" route to take for a new grad, though. it really depends on what the job market is like.

[color=#483d8b]sometimes, a nice impression is made when you go by the hr department (in business professional clothes) and apply. sometimes you can even get an interview at the same time. professional presentation can set you apart from others.

[color=#483d8b]that said, i didn't apply in person for any of the jobs i applied for as a new grad. i lived out west, and all the jobs i applied for were in the east. i sent out resumes, and sent in applications to those facilities that responded to my resume. then i interviewed after i moved back east after graduation. i had four job offers.

[color=#483d8b]if you are applying locally, it might be a nice gesture to "follow up" your applications in person.

i found my last 3 Nursing Jobs via the internet. i don't see myself "pounding the pavement" for any future jobs either.

critter lover raises an interesting point about possible advantages to going to hr in person...worth considering...

Applying is wonderful. It sends your resume to all appropriate managers.

But it's not everything. Yours is still one electronic form on top of another. You need the human contact.

Follow up with contacting the HR offices & asking to come in to meet to get acquainted with their facility. Bring copies of your resume & license.
