APN wanting to go back to hospital as RN part time

Nurses Career Support

Hello, I got my accelerated BSN in '06 and worked as an RN on a busy Med Surg tele floor for a year and 3 months. Then, to finish my MSN by the time my husband finished med school, I went back to get my MSN (Adult NP). I was unable to work at the hospital part time (they wanted full timers), and so I took a part time RN job at an outpatient clinic while I finished my MSN.

I have now been working as an NP for about 10 months, but it's part-time only, and I am itching to get back to the hospital :nurse: (especially since teaching may be in my future and I certainly need more experience than 1 year 3 months in med surg tele). I am having extreme difficulty finding a part time RN job as an NP...especially since I've been out of the hospital for 3 years now. Any advice? I mean, I still remember how to prime IV tubing, do IV's (which I even did as the outpatient nurse), and put in a foley. I recently took a tele recertification ce. Would I seriously have to spend >$1000 :twocents: for an RN refresher course?

Myself, I don't see that a refresher course would be necessary, but out of curiosity, you might want to anonymously contact an employer and vaguely describe the situation to ask. I think you will need to be persistent in order to get what you want.
