Nurses Career Support

Published

I will be graduating from a paramedic to RN program in May. I currently work as a paramedic in an ER and parttime with a fire department. I also am per diem with life flight FW/RW. My dilema is that pre hospital medicine is my passion and I was wondering if there are many opportunities out there foir RN's in the prehospital setting.

Flight nursing is the first thing that pops into my head. But they usually require ER experience. But your pre-hospital paramedic service might get you the job.

Congrats!

Keep looking around. I know of one flight service that has transitioned some of its flight medics into flight RN's after they graduate from nursing school. There's also a service in my area that hires RN/EMT-P's for critical care ground transfers. Those units answer some 911 calls when not on their critical care totes, so they don't completely give up the prehospital care.

Would education be a possible interest? You might qualify for an EMS educator position, either with a 911 service, hospital, or local college.
