Advice/tips going to nursing school out-of-state

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi There!

I'm thinking to apply to nursing schools out of California (particularly accelerated BSN programs since I already have my bachelors in another field) and would like some tips/advice.

I'm not married nor have any kids, so it will be a lot easier for me to be flexible with moving. However, I do need to work and would like to know if any of you moved out of state to attend nursing school while working. If you did not work, how were you able to manage with your finances, rent, etc while attending nursing school?

Thanks!:angrybird13:

If you already have a bachelor's in another field, do you have student loans to repay? Are you going to be paying for your own nursing education? It may be more realistic to go to school where you are already a resident and move after you graduate.

I have no student loans, but I know I'll have to take out a loan when I go back for nursing to help out w/the expenses. I know there are a lot of nursing students who are able to not work and manage to get by with money. I don't know how people do it...I'm assuming they utilize their financial aid or loans to help with rent, food, etc.

If you're going to need loans, I'd advise you again to look for a school in your current state of residence so you don't have to pay out of state tuition. It's going to make a big difference in your quality of life when it comes time to repay those loans!
