Moving from Portland Oregon USA to East Coast Australia

World Australia

This is my first time posting in a forum, EVER!

My husband and I are both nurses and we are hoping to move to a more sunny climate in Australia. We have two children, 3 & 5. We both have already obtained our Australian nursing registration and are now trying to find an employer to sponsor us. My husband has 4 years ICU experience and 3 years Emergency experience. He is hoping to continue working in the emergency room. I will try to obtain work after we arrive and get settled. I have 8 years of Trauma ICU experience. We are looking for advice/help.

1)Do only public hospitals have emergency rooms?

2)Where should we live?!?! Looking for family friendly area with good surfing, my 5 year old loves the water and surfing. We are hoping for northern NSW or southern Queensland.

A thriving farmers market and/or good restaurants would be amazing as well, I'm quite the foodie =)

3)What should we do about schooling for our kids? Public school? Private School? Currently they both attend Montessori school, I don't see a lot of Montessori schools available in Australia.

4)We are currently working with an Agency to help us find work, but they are only looking in the private healthcare sector. Should we look for work without the agency?

We are hoping to make our move in December so the kids can get settled before starting school in January. Thanks so much for helping! At this point, any advice helps.

Many private hospitals have ED's. try Mater brisbane - it has private and public, qld health, nsw health and northern nsw is the best ýuppy? for want of a better word, place to be for markets and montesorri, alternate education, the lifestyle you are after.:)

Thanks for the reply. We have managed to find some jobs that would fit us well but the smaller hospitals are telling us they are not allowed to provide us with a 457 visa unless the position has been unfilled for 6 months. Feels like we are back to square one.

Hi, in case you would change your mind and instead try cooler Victoria, you may want to try applying in The Alfred here in Melbourne. I believe they are currently recruiting for Critical Care Nurses in ED. Good luck! :)
