suddenly its hard to land a job in Perth hospitals?

Hey everyone, newbie here in this forum. i just want to know if other nurses here in Perth are also feeling the same difficulty that i am feeling at the moment. I am currently looking for a full time job in the hospital and im surprised that aside from the fact that there arent many vacancies available atm public or private, i also find it hard to score an interview. Also, i am already working as a casual RN in a top private hospital then when they advertised a new unit that they just opened and were looking for staffs, i applied and managed to get an interview. after more than a month of waiting and turning down 3 offers (non hospital jobs) i was informed that i was not successful. (i was gutted ) when i asked for feedback all i was told was there was a high volume of applications and that it was competetive. It wasnt like this few years ago. really frustrating.

They did real good overseas recruitment did they not? even aged care. I heard hospitals were signing up the 457 visas at 20-30 a week at one stage and these nurses do not tend to leave as they support families nor can they decrease eft.

And then with the high cost of living, and rising unemployment.....nurses are not retiring at 45 anymore because usually they are now the breadwinners.

And to those reading this post just hanging in for when these oldies do retire, do not hold your breathe, think they are in it for the long haul.

Good luck in the future, many feel your pain, including new graduates and not just in Perth.

I've just moved from Perth to London and I certainly sensed jobs weren't easy to come by anymore. I reckon find a community job and do that until you find a hospital job you like ? Good luck hunting. I'm certainly keeping an eye on the job scene, so whenever I decide to come back....But yeah, especially for the RN grads, absolutely brutal, no jobs anywhere, I know girls that had to leave Perth because of it.

This is worrying as I'm at the end stages of securing a WA Skilled - Nominated (subclass 190) visa and planning to settle in/around Perth. The International DH Workforce Supply Bureau are phoning me next week to further discus my interest in working in WA, including visa and registration requirements. Doesn't make sense to be advertising in the UK and going to this extent if there are little prospects at the end! Time will tell I guess. Fingers crossed things work out well for you! :)

Takes DIAC. About 4 years to catchup to the supply and demand, meanwhile local graduates are backing up as experienced positions are oversupply lied, no place to go they drop out of nursing, then viola, then the cry out why there are locals dropping out in big numbers off registration list or not applying for nursing as happened 1990-2000.

All this talk of massive nursing shortage starting in the next 5 years, does not help the now in time graduates or the now in time nurses that immigrate, the recruitment agencies have now turned to Australia as this is the only country with active immigration of nurses, they do not care if there are fewer and fewer jobs, just as long as their business keeps going.

You should be okay for work as you do not need sponsorship and can work casual part time which most jobs are now. Sponsorship costs hospitals money and full time jobs.
