HELP!? So confused!! Midwifery vs nursing?!

Hi all, I'm Kate and I'm about to graduate as a EN my ultimate passion and dream is midwifery and as far as I know that's where I want to head for and do with my future. I have no idea whether I should continue on and do the dual degree in nursing/mid which is 4 years full time or direct entry mid which I haven't looked into as much.. My biggest concern is time and money. I'm 27 and while doing my EN I have been working full time and doing uni at night. But unfortunately that is not offered for either of these courses and unfortunately I still have to pay the bills but want to be qualified before I'm 40!! Any advice would be amazing there is only so much my head can cope with and only so many sleepless nights I can get. TIA -Kate

I would finish your en, then work as an en whilst completing your RN via distance. Once you have completed your RN, then apply for graduate entry midwifery. In nsw at least it is a 0.8 paid position, therefore you could always be working and studying at the same time.

The MUM's I have spoken with about each option prefer graduate entry as the graduates have the basic acute nursing care skills.

It takes a while, but it would allow you to work at the same time & you would get paid an education allowance once working as a midwife as you have completed a post graduate degree. Also, when you start in middy, you stay at your RN grading, you don't get relegated back down.
