WHOA! Will MN striking hospitals lose Magnet status?

Unfair Labor Practices

In the 3-year period preceding submission of the application, the applicant must not have committed an unfair labor practice involving a nurse, as determined in a fully and finally adjudicated proceeding or before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) or state or international regulatory agency with jurisdiction over labor relations and/or a reviewing federal, state, or international court. Only the Commission on Magnet may approve any exception to this criterion.

I pulled the above from the ANCC website re: eligibility requirements for Magnet hospitals. The most recent strike on June 10th by MN nurses was a ULP strike. Does this mean the next time their Magnet certification comes up for review, they are going to lose it?

This would include Abbott (a striking MNA hospital), Fairview Ridges (I think, a striking MNA hospital), and I think both Minneapolis Childrens (a striking MNA hospital) and Gillette childrens (a striking MNA hospital). I do not believe that the University of MN hospital is affected as they are not MNA although they have Magnet status. I WILL ACCEPT CORRECTIONS TO THE ABOVE LIST if I am wrong. I live and work in the Minneapolis market but my facility is not MNA or Magnet certified.

I wonder if the hospital administrators know about this or if anyone put two and two together? Or if this could be one of the implications of the strike? I am just speculating, but it looks like that might be the case ....

It would seem from your quoted guidelines that the hospitals would ONLY lose maggot status IF the ULP complaint has gone through the entire complaint/appeals/re-appeals/re-re-appeals/re-re-re-appeals process, then been deemed "naughty."

Yeah, I was re-reading that and saw that too. Was wondering if that was what that meant.

Somebody needs to tell the MNA to put their nurses through that process. There's some bad hospital press for ya to go along with the strike.
