This is a partial list of bills in the 107th session of Congress. I found 50 bills introduced to benefit nurses and patients by doing a search on the keyword "nurse." There may be other bills. As I finish looking at the history of these bills, I can tell you honestly that my hands are shaking and tears are running down my face. I have never felt so disheartened about the nursing profession.

At this time of a severe crisis for nurses and patients, it seems that the only bill to pass Congress during this session was to provide funds to educate more nurses, and to produce Public Service Announcements ABOUT nurses. No bills to relieve the terrible conditions that causes the deaths of our patients, or to give us the most meager hope for the future of our profession. If you find this list as heinous and callously negligent to this crisis as I have today, I urge EVERY nurse, right this minute, TODAY, to write and phone your Senators and Congressman to express your disgust over their apparent disinterest to our profession. Too many bills, all of them, have entered the no-man's land of being referred to committees.

Please do not ever utter one more word of discontent about the nursing profession unless you have done that one little thing. WRITE YOUR SENATORS AND CONGRESSMAN TODAY.

My God! Not a single bill passed to help us. We didn't even get the postage stamp.

Thanks, Karen!

I'm just getting started.

Does the ANA or anyone else have a list of senators and congressmen who have voted for or against nursing legislation, or who and who hasn't co-sponsored some of the above bills?

Senator Boniar's on the list.

I E-mailed the Senator earlier this year regarding the nursing shortage.

I'm proud he's supporting us.

Hmm I know who I'm re-electing!!!

There is a contact button on ANA website. You could ask the ANA PAC or the governmental affairs dept. Usually its more a list of who HAS co-sponsored a bill & if your reps name is not it he hasnt. YOu could also contact your particular representative & tell him you want to know how he voted on a certain bill. Sometimes that info is on his website too.
