Confidence shaken/looking 4 a new job

Nurses Disabilities

Published

Hi

My disability involves my ability to process information related to "inattention". I am 49 and became a nurse at 44, LPN first and then RN at 47. My present situation is I have an interview in a doctors office and I do not want to pull off the "what are your weaknesses" question without screwing myself.

The staff where I am presently working are aware I have a learning disability by my own admission. Some of my peers have zeroed in on this and used it as a weapon to push me out. I believe, out of jealousy because I am an RN and they are LPNs. Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for LPNS, after all I was one for 5 years prior to earning my RN.

Any ideas on how to handle this interview with a bruised ego?

Thank you!

I lost this position. I was not able to master the computer system and was let go. I have no idea which direction to turn.

So sorry to hear that you lost this job. Suggest you approach a home health agency and ask to do extended care cases. One patient for an entire shift with one nursing note to complete should help a lot with your situation. Once you get going on a case, you can write up an entire "play by play" schedule for your shift with the patient and use this to refocus. If you find yourself off track, all you have to do is to look at the time, then consult your cheat sheet to see what should be going on. Many times the patient schedule will even be posted on the wall or in the front of the field chart. And you can make certain you sign on with an agency that still does paper charting, so you don't have to deal with computer charting, at least for the near future. Good luck.

I can totally relate to what you are saying.

I'm really sorry.

I have a coworker who is struggling so hard with our new computer system. We've had some talks about it and she really wants to quit because it has demoralized her terribly. She such a good hearted nurse and such a loss if she can't get it.

There must be some type of tutorial or class for learning EMR and the basics of any program, I'd hope? Something that can help you be better prepare to learn a company's software without it looking like Latin.
