Yes I get both, because of the length of time before I could entertain returning to work. The paperwork is easey. One because your a nurse and secondly no one knows how long it will be before you wither return to work, or run out of money to support. A nurse never ahs a problem getting these benifits especially due to the work you have done.

I would like to make another comment in regards to hiring an attorney. Keep in mind you will need to check with your individual state law. I have been on disability twice. I have never used an attorney. I filled out the paperwork and within 2-3 months I was getting a monthly check. I went out on PTSD. The situation where most people have difficulties are with such things as "back injuries". In the state of Arizona I know that if an attorney wins your case then each month he gets a portion of your benefits until you either get well or die! My personal opinion is that I would fill out the application and send it in. If you are awarded your benefits great, if you are denied then talk to an attorney about appealing your case. FYI. On a monthly basis you have to pay for Medicare part B, which in my state is about $80.00. You can fill out another form from SRS. That will determine eligability for all other programs one being the Medicare Part B co-pay. I also get a small amount of food stamps, and a Medicaid card because of my diagnosis. I wish you luck..FLTNRSE2:clown:

I wish that had been the case with me. We live in Louisiana - I filled out my applications online and hand delivered to the local office.

I had an appointment with a case worker there, and they gave me a printout of the pay scale, (or amount scale?)

Then I got paperwork and had a hearing with a disability judge - received info that I was denied, and had another hearing set up. The day of the hearing, I was in telemetry waiting to go to the cath lab. When we explained my absence, I was just told to refile. We are doing this, but I've been in the hospital more often - and have been dx with CVA and MI. You'd think with all these new dxs as well as earlier ones would clear me.

It is SO frustrating to do this over and over and over...
