Advice on Nclex with ADD/Anxiety

Nurses Disabilities

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am a repeat test taker for the Nclex-RN. I have ADD and currently taking medication for it while I am studying as well for the day of testing. I also have major test anxiety especially when it comes to this test being on CAT. I will be testing in a couple of weeks, so I am looking for prior test takers that have a learning disability to guide me on what was their method to use in order to pass the Nclex.

I have studied Hurst, Mark Klimek, Saunders and I practice questions on Uworld. People have told me to use the "Decision Tree" from Kaplan, but it's so many steps to go over while I am doing questions. Is there a simple way to apply these strategies (step by step).

Nope. There's no simple way to do much of anything nursing-related, especially study for the NCLEX. The best way to get ready for it is to answer lots of NCLEX style questions.

Make sure you understand the rationales. If you don't, then you'll need to go back and study/memorize content.

If you understand the "why," you'll have a much easier time with the ordering and SATA questions.

Good luck!!

Yeah here is,a simplified version if the decision tree...

What's the topic

Rule out psychosocial answers if the question is,asking for something physical

Assess or intervene? (Usually located in question)

Prioritize...ABC...unstable...acute....real problems....complications...discharge (reverse the order if the question says who will you discharge first)

If all answers are psychosocial....what happens if I say X...how will the patient is? Or ask...how will I respond if nurse tells me X?

I've only just started working on my degree so I'm nowhere near the NCLEX yet, but I also have ADD and anxiety and have always struggled with taking standardized tests. So one of my close friends (who is currently a nurse) recommended a nursing mnemonics book to me that she said really helped her. I was able to order it on amazon for only $10. It's called 108 Memory Tricks to Demolish Nursing School by Jon Haws. It's a pretty cool book, I've already learned a few things we havent even covered yet in my courses. Maybe that could help you! Anyway, good luck!
