is my past going to hinder my ability to get a RN license?

Nurses Recovery

Published

A few years ago I self admitted to a hospital for prescription pill drug abuse. I was in the hospital for 2 days and attended an outpatient therapy for a few months afterwards. I had no court trouble, no charges of any kind, no jail time, or anything like that. I'm curious when I apply to get my license if I will have to confess this information and if it is going to mean I won't be able to get a license. I saw an older post on this site from 2009 that basically said your medical information is confidential so they wont know unless you tell them, but that if you say no and they find out, you would be in a lot of trouble. Is this still the case? I appreciate any feedback. Thank you in advance

by the way, i do plan on calling my state board of nursing on Monday, I am just curious if anyone out there has been in or known someone in a similar situation and could tell me how you handled it/what happened? Thanks again.

Do yourself a favor and hire a lawyer who has a proven positive record defending and working with nurses! The BoN is NOT your friend and has no interest in being one either! Good luck in your new career and continued recovery!
