Do Nurses in Recovery get hired for....

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi am having a very hard time finding a job because of my recovery nurse status. However, so many travel nursing job recruiters have called me and i am just wondering "do travel nursing assignments happen for nurses in recovery?" They seem desperate to talk to me, but once they truly find out my situation, i just don't know if they will want to hire me anymore. Thanks

Is anyone else having trouble with their local board or nursing? I have been jumping through hoops for almost 2 years trying to get my licenses conditioned. I had a summary suspension for diversion, which I sought help for and have been "clean" for 2 years. I am so frustrated at this point, that I am debating wether or not to just give up on the idea of ever working as a nurse again.

This may sound stupid but what is the OIG exclusion list and how do you find out if you are on it.

I am so sorry to hear this.

I am thankful I live in Missouri. If there is such a thing as a user friendly BON I guess Mo would be as close to it as you can get. They really do try and work with you.

Due to reasons too long to go into, I even requested to have my probation lifted early and they let me off almost a whole year early. Free and clear. I really can't complain. But I know there are certain states that make it almost impossible to do the right thing and start over. It's a darn shame.

Gosh, I feel so lucky and thank God every day for my job. Don't have time to tell my story right now but I'm in the last year of a five year bit on probation for diversion.

Luckily, I have a lot of friends where I live that know me as a good nurse and my situation didn't have much of an effect on me getting a job. I was out of work a total of only one week and got hired as the ADON of a LTC facility and I've been working there during my whole probation.

I feel so blessed they totally trust me. I know it's tough out there.

When you went on your job interview, what did you tell them, how did you put it? Just curious

At the time of the interview I was not officially on probation yet but I knew it was coming. I just told the truth and what happened. A good friend had previously worked at this facility and has had called the person who was interviewing me and gave me an excellent reference.

They actually didn't care about it that much. They were just relieved my license was still in good standing at the time they hired me. I DID get put on probationary status after working there for about six months. By then I had proved myself as an awesome employee and it didn't matter that much.

That is the problem I am facing now. I have gone to two interviews and told them what happened, and they are telling me that they can't hire me until the board makes their decition. Are we just supposed to sit around for those 9 months until that decision is made? I could really use a good reference, and being you live in Missouri too. I have found it so difficult to find out information. Could you please email me personally? I want to ask you, what happened when it came out in the board of nursing newsletter for you? I live in a small town, and everyone is talking and making up what they thought would happen and every job I go to, someone knows someone who knows someone.... agh!! Thank you ssooooooo vvveeerrryyy mmmmmuuucccchhh for your input!!! email: [email protected]

Hello, I am not sure if there are any new ongoing conversations about finding a job with a probationary license. I have no restriction but have 1 year monitoring. I will be starting my job search in a few weeks. Where do I start?

I have read many responses and I wanted to post that it is great to have this support forum...I have been in knots for a while with no one to share that would listen and not judge. Thanks again.

Where I went to treatment we were told to act "as if" the board had already made their ruling. In GA the BON usually does the same thing. Four year consent and monitoring and aftercare, two year narc restriction then you have a clean license. Ours are usually private consents. Have you called your state nurses organization? My treatment center has nurse advocates for us but the Georgia Nurses Association also has nurse advocates. Part of our consent order is to be active in aftercare at an approved aftercare program or in the GNA aftercare program. Plus attending AA, NA and having a sponsor. I had an interview today and when asked about my gap in employment I said that I had become dependant on prescription narcotics and entered a treatment program and was now in recovery. Part of my consent order was that we go to a proffessional treatment program for 6-8 weeks too.
