Hi everyone,

I'm an RN in the Philippines and now a resident of Oregon. I'm looking for a state that doesn't require me to take the English test in order to take the NCLEX rn. Thank you so much and any help would be appreciated. I have applied for CES through cgfns and I would like to be able to use it before it expires in December I think. I applied in washington actually and they are only waiting for my TOEFL score but I don't wanna take that English test. If there's any other way and not take the English test.

yes they require local license and SSN. I am from the philippines I just took my NCLEX exam last November 3 2013 and luckily passed. Im presently here in NJ since they required TOEFL I decided to file in state of Vermont. Now I am processing for endorsement for NJ just waiting for my finger printing.

Hi Roseycheeksey! I believe OR doesn't necessarily require that you take an English test. But you do have to have proof of English Language Proficiency. One way to do that is by submitting evidence that your nursing education, textbooks, etc. were in English. This can be achieved by having your school fill out the Language of Instruction form, which they would then send directly to OR BON.

That is if you want to get licensed, and eventually work, in OR... Unless of course you have other reasons for considering getting licensed in a different state. :) Nonetheless, I wish you the best of luck! :)

If you are confident in your English proficiency, I would take the test, it maybe expensive but cheaper in the long run since you will get the license you ultimately need.

State of OR requires the 960 hours within the last 5 years. It's been 10 years since I was in practice; stay-at-home mom for all those years. Now I'm ready to get back to nursing. I'm just trying to find out what my options are so I can decide which direction to take. Basically, I will have to take the re-entry program in OR which costs $2700 before I can be licensed, and being licensed in another state is one the requirement to be able to get into the re-entry program. So, having said that, either way, I will have to take NCLEX in another state so I can get into the re-entry program. If I have the 960 hours then I don't have to take the re-entry. If you'll think about it, why would I spend that $195 TOEFL fee if I can use it to apply directly to another state that doesn't require english test. Unless, there's no other way, and english test is the only way, then so be it. Thanks for all the comments :-)

Good luck kababayan!

No, I haven't taken NCLEX yet kababayan. I'm considering going back to the Philippines and get that 960 hours since I haven't been in nursing for more than 10 years (stayed at home mom). Thanks for your input.
